LOAN WATCH | Nine Rhinos in action across SL and Championship

Last weekend saw nine Rhinos players head out on loan across the Betfred Super League and Championship competitions as they took up the opportunity for additional match minutes away from Brad Arthurs' first team and the Reserves competition.

Harry Newman and Jeremiah Mata'utia's return to Hull FC saw both players run out against Toulouse Olympique on Sunday, whilst Ben Littlewood was back in York Knight's colours as they took on St Helens at the BrewDog Stadium. A new face donned Castleford colours as Tom Nicholson-Watton gained minutes in Ryan Carr's side, plus young talents Marcus Qareqare, Riley Lumb, Jacob Stead, Joe Butterfield and Joe Diskin all competed in the Championship for Keighley and Hunslet

Here's how they got on:

Hull FC 4 Toulouse Olympique 12

A low-scoring second half saw Hull FC struggle to overcome tough defence from Toulouse Olympique as the French outfit picked up their third win of the season at the MKM Stadium.

All the points came in the first 40 minutes as Tom Briscoe responded to tries from Olly Ashall-Bott and former Airlie Bird Joe Cator, but neither team could add to the tallies as Hull fell to their first loss under Andy Last.

Harry Newman was a starter in the centres for his third appearance for the club, whilst Mata'utia was utilised off the bench for his second game for the club. Newman, partnering former Leeds team mate Tom Briscoe, made 88 metres from 16 carries and one tackle break, but was used heavily in defence as he made the most tackles (18) out of any player in the outside backs.

Mata'utia on the other hand made the most total metres out of any Hull player (156), but was edged by Lewis Martin for gainline metres who made 119 metres compared to the prop's 118. He also made the most post-contact metres by any player on the field (70 metres) and totalled three tackle busts and 12 tackles.

Hull KR 50 Castleford Tigers 6

Castleford's disappointing season continued on the road as they conceded nine tries against a rejuvenated Hull KR outfit.

Kicking off with two scores from Karl Lawton, Tom Davies' hat trick pulled the Robins clear of Ryan Carr's side, who only posted one try through Krystian Mapapalangi.

The game marked a debut appearance for Tom Nicholson-Watton in Tigers colours as the prop joined Phoenix Laulu-Togaga'e, Brad Dwyer and Tyler Dupree in making their first outings for the club. Featuring a total of 27 minutes, Nicholson-Watton made an impact with Brock Greacen, Sam Hall and Cain Robb off the bench as he totalled 20 tackles.

St Helens 40 York Knights 16

Whilst the Rhinos were taking on Wakefield on Friday night, Ben Littlewood was suiting up for York Knights across the Pennines as Mark Applegarth's side took on St Helens.

After getting a win over Toulouse to take them up to tenth in the table, the Knights couldn't hold a resurgent St Helens side as second-half tries from Alex Walmsley, Jack Welsby, Jake Davies and Nene Macdonald in the second half saw the Red Vee pull away for a 40-16 result. To their credit, the Knights made their presence known in the first 40 minutes as they kept the contest in the balance at half time with a 16-10 scoreline.

In his third game of the season for the Knights, Littlewood was introduced into the action off the bench as he played 53 minutes, where he made a match-high in carries and tackle breaks. He also made 21 tackles.

Hunslet 6 Workington Town 38

In the Betfred Championship, Hunslet headed into their bye week with a tough 38-6 defeat at the hands of Workington Town at the South Leeds Stadium.

Rhinos quartet Riley Lumb, Marcus Qareqare, Joe Diskin and Joe Butterfield all ran out for Kyle Trout's side - Lumb and Qareqare partnering on the right edge whilst Butterfield and Diskin were utilised off the bench. Even with the reinforcements, the Parksiders continued their inconsistent form against a Whitehaven side who won their second game of the season thanks to two tries from Jake Carter and Alex Donaghy.

Lumb made his first loan appearance of the year outside of Qareqare, also making his Hunslet debut. Neither player could find the try line on this occasion, but Diskin on the other hand managed to find a try assist as he set up Ant Walker's score. Butterfield continues his time in Hunslet colours with his fourth game off the bench.

Keighley Cougars 29 Halifax Panthers 20

Ian Hardman's Keighley Cougars welcomed Jacob Stead back to their ranks as the Cougars took on Halifax Panthers in round twelve at Cougar Park.

With the Leeds back rower starting on the edge, Keighley managed to come away with the league points in a closely fought affair as two tries from both Alfie Dean and Emmanuel Waine helped them overcome a stern Panthers challenge.
